Bankroll Management: The Only Edge Most Players Can Control

You cannot control whether a catch goes to hand. You can control how much of your money is on the outcome. Bankroll management is unglamorous and it is the only part of this that a player fully governs — which is why it is worth more attention than any tipping service, especially before a big IPL match or a heavy cricketbetting weekend. A good plan matters even more when you are using a Lotus 365 bookor Lotus 365 ID for fast access to markets.

Define the bankroll first

Your bankroll is a fixed amount of money, set aside in advance, that you have decided you can lose entirely without it affecting your rent, your bills, your family or your ability to sleep. If losing all of it would cause a real problem, the number is too high.

It is not:

  • money you have borrowed, from anyone, for any reason;
  • money already committed to something else;
  • a number that grows every time you lose the previous one.

Set it monthly. When it is gone, you are finished for the month. That single rule prevents most of the serious damage this activity causes.

Flat staking and unit size

A unit is a fixed percentage of your bankroll — commonly 1% to 2%. With a ₹10,000 bankroll, one unit at 2% is ₹200, and that is your standard stake on a normal bet.

BankrollUnit at 1%Unit at 2%Losing runs survivable at 2%
₹5,000₹50₹10050 straight losses
₹10,000₹100₹20050 straight losses
₹25,000₹250₹50050 straight losses

The right-hand column is the point. Flat staking at 2% means a catastrophic run of fifty consecutive losses is required to wipe you out. Staking 20% a time, four bad bets does most of the damage — and four bad bets is a normal Tuesday.

The discipline is in the flat part. Staking more because you feel confident is how a plan quietly stops being a plan. Confidence is not information.

Why doubling up destroys accounts

The Martingale idea — double your stake after each loss so one win recovers everything — is the most expensive intuition in gambling. It fails for two hard reasons.

The stakes explode. Starting at ₹100 on even-money bets, a losing run demands: ₹100, ₹200, ₹400, ₹800, ₹1,600, ₹3,200, ₹6,400, ₹12,800. Eight losses in a row — which happens roughly once in 256 sequences — needs ₹25,500 committed to win the original ₹100.

The limits stop you. Every platform has a maximum stake, and your own balance has one sooner. The run does not need to be infinite to ruin you; it needs to be longer than your money.

The version of this that catches most people is not the formal system, it is the informal one: losing ₹2,000, then putting ₹2,000 on the next match to “get it back”. That is the same mistake wearing different clothes.

Stop-losses and session limits

Decide these before you open the app, and write them down:

  1. Session stop-loss. Down three units in a sitting, you stop for the day. No exceptions, particularly not for a match that is “certain”.
  2. Session time limit. Ninety minutes, then a break. Long sessions degrade judgement in a way you will not notice from inside one.
  3. Monthly loss cap. Your bankroll. Once spent, done until next month.
  4. A withdrawal rule. Up 50%, take the original stake off the table. Money you have withdrawn cannot be lost back.

Rules you keep in your head bend under pressure. Rules you enforce mechanically do not — which is why a deposit limit set by your desk is worth more than a resolution. Ours applies them the same day, no questions asked.

Keeping records

Keep a simple log: date, market, stake, odds, result, running balance. A spreadsheet is fine.

It is dull and it is the fastest way to learn something true about your own play. Almost everyone who starts logging discovers the same two things: they lose more than they remembered, and their losses are concentrated in exactly the markets they thought they were good at. Memory edits results in your favour. A spreadsheet does not.

If you find yourself betting more than planned, betting to recover losses, hiding it, or using money meant for something else, those are recognised warning signs, not character flaws.
